To celebrate their 5th anniversary last May, United Way Emerging Leaders recruited 100 memberes and volunteers, who packed 35,000 meals for area food pantries. The first SmackHunger&SayCheese event was a huge success, and this year's event will be even bigger. Plans are underway for the event on May 17, and the goal is 50,000 meals. They are expanding the selections this year to include both a vitamin fortified mac & cheese meal, as well as a tomato & basil spaghetti. The Marathon County Hunger Coalition will distribute the meals to area food pantries and will also be providing recipes and tips for protein and vegetables that can be added to increase the nutritional value of the packaged meals.
