Start Right Family Visitors help United Way Ready to Read get books into the homes of familes with young children. Being read to daily, from a very young age, helps to build language skills and paves the way for school success.
One mom, Jayda, told the family visitor that her 3 year old was so excited to have books to read every day. She loves story time. Jayda also said that she couldn't remember ever having a book of her own until she started school, and she never did learn to enjoy reading or school. She's determined to change that attitude for her children. Daily story time has become a highlight of their day and she's seeing growth in her children's vocabulary and attention span.
United Way Ready to Read distributes 10,000 books annually through our partners. Books are purchased with sponsorship dollars provided by: B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation, Wausau Breakfast Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club of Greater Wausau, United Way of Marathon County, UUnited Way Women in Action, UW Extension - Homemakers Club, First Universalist Unitarian Church, and the Wausau Paranormal Research Society.
