United Way of Marathon County partnered with AARP Tax-Aide program to operate a call center during the recent income tax filing season. Call center volunteers scheduled 1871 appointments for low income taxpayers, with a special focus on seniors and those with disabilities who might be unable to pay a tax accounting service. Appointments were scheduled in Wausau, Mosinee and Merrill and were free to taxpayers. More than $1.15 million was returned to the community in tax refunds to this group of taxpayers.
