United Way of Marathon County recognizes National 211 Day. 211 is a free, confidential information and referral line staffed by Information Specialists who help connect anyone in need to local health and human resources. Our 211 serves residents of Marathon County and seven others. In 2021 United Way’s 211 answered 14,346 requests for help from residents, providing 24,812 referrals to community resources. There were 5,054 COVID-19 related phone calls in 2021, which made up 35% of total calls.
United Way of Marathon County FIRST CALL began in 1990 as an informational and referral service. In 2006, United Way’s FIRST CALL became United Way’s 211 and in 2008 became a nationally accredited information and referral provider.
Information Specialists are trained to ask the right questions, thoroughly assess situations, and remain non-judgmental to find the most appropriate resources available. Every call answered is handled with care, confidentiality and with the understanding that each call is not the same. Calls can vary from complex situations with multiple needs to situations with only one need.
