Your Gift Makes A Difference

mobilemeals1.jpgOne of United Way's goals is to help seniors live independently.  Wausau Area Mobile Meals is one of our funded partners and provides a vital service to help us reach that goal.  Each day Wausau Area Mobile Meals volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals to seniors in our community.  They also provide a reassuring "check-in" for many seniors and their families.  On occasion, they are the first to realize that someone is in need of help.  Recently one local resident, 101 years young, moved to an assisted living facility, but shared that having delicious meals delivered by caring volunteers had been key to her living alone for as long as possible.

YOUR United Way Receives 4 Star Rating

4Star 234x60.jpgCharity Navigator, the largest independent evaluator of non-profits, recently awarded United Way of Marathon County a 4 star ranking.  While Charity Navigator evaluates more than 8000 charities annually, only 29% are awarded 4 stars.  The ratings are based on how efficiently a charity uses donations and how well it has sustained programming and services over time.  They also rate our commitment to being accountable and transparent in sharing our financial information.  United Way of Marathon County is committed to using your dollars effectively and providing you, our donor, with the very best value for your charitable dollar.  Thank you for your support and trust.

Emerging Leaders Planning Second Annual SmackHunger Event

SmackHunger&SayCheese logo1.jpgTo celebrate their 5th anniversary last May, United Way Emerging Leaders recruited 100 memberes and volunteers, who packed 35,000 meals for area food pantries.  The first SmackHunger&SayCheese event was a huge success, and this year's event will be even bigger.  Plans are underway for the event on May 17, and the goal is 50,000 meals.  They are expanding the selections this year to include both a vitamin fortified mac & cheese meal, as well as a tomato & basil spaghetti.  The Marathon County Hunger Coalition will distribute the meals to area food pantries and will also be providing recipes and tips for protein and vegetables that can be added to increase the nutritional value of the packaged meals.

Emerging Leader members are forming teams and raising funds to cover the costs of the materials.  You can help.  A donation of $1.35 will cover the costs of food and supplies for one family meal package.  Make your
donation today.
