Your Gift Makes a Difference

Brittany2.jpgBrittany* is sixteen and recently celebrated ten months of sobriety!  Your gift to United Way made her recovery possible.

A year ago, Brittany was placed in an inpatient program outside of our area where she was treated for heroin addiction.  After completing that program and returning to her home in the Wausau area, she immediately began intensive follow up treatment in the CHOICES program at Peaceful Solutions Counseling.  There she participated in group therapy, individual therapy, and eventually the teen aftercare program.  Today, she continues with individual therapy but is on the road to recovery.

She is on track to complete high school and wants to become a substance abuse counselor to help others who have fallen into the dangerous trap of addiction.  Your investment in United Way makes it possible for teens like Brittany to get their lives back on track.  Thank you for making a difference.

Ready to Read - Putting Books into the Hands of Kids

R2R Logo-for andar.jpg

One of the biggest challenges for increasing the time that parents spend reading to their children is getting books into their homes.  For many low-income familes, purchasing books is not a possibility, and getting to the library may be difficult because of transportation limitations.  Ready to Read can help change that.  This United Way project distributes over 10,000 new, age appropriate books per year to children in our community.  Distributionis made through our program partners and other organizations that work with young families.  The book purchases are funded by grants from:

  • 3M Foundation
  • B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation
  • Dudley Foundation
  • Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
  • Green Bay Packer Foundation
  • Kiwanis Club of Wausau
  • Rotary Club of Wausau
  • Wausau Breakfast Optimist Club
  • UW Extension - Homemakers Club
  • United Way of Marathon County - Women in Action
  • United Way of Marathon County

Thank you for your support.
