You Make A Difference

IMG_4874.JPGRecent data shows that 1 in 7 people in Marathon County are hungry at some point every month. Your support of CommUnity Fest helps to change that. With 16 food sculptures and over 2 dozen kids games, activities and big trucks and tractors, CommUnity Fest was bigger and better than ever. At the end of the day, food donations filled a semi and the total food collected weighted almost 14,000 pounds! All that food will fill the shelves at local pantries for several months.

Check out the photo gallery and start planning your 2019 entry now! Thank you to everyone who participated, attended and donated food. Special thanks to UMR, BMO Harris, Sun Printing and WSAW Channel 7 for sponsoring this event.

Celebrating 10 Years of Women in Action

IMG_5205.JPGTen years ago, a small group of local women helped launch United Way Women in Action, dedicated to helping other women overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. Since that time Women in Action has raised and distributed more than $125,000 to local programs and services.

On October 1, Women in Action celebrated their 10 year anniversary with a volunteer service project and networking event. After sharing highlights from the past 10 years, it was announced that Women in Action is changing their name to WOMEN UNITED, and will continue their mission to lift up other women in our local community. Congratulations on 10 years of service and dedication.

We're looking for volunteers to instill a love of books and learning with kids who need a positive, engaging role model. Volunteers are needed at Marathon Area Elementary and Mosinee Elementary once a week for one hour, usually during the students' lunch hour. Join us on October 27 for Make a Difference Day 2018. United Way Volunteer Connection's raking project is our biggest volunteer effort of the year. Help our elderly and disabled neighbors take care of fall yard clean up by raking leaves. Corporate groups, school groups, families or individuals are all welcome. Those interested in raking should sign up in advance, or come to First United Methodist Church between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. for a yard assignment.

Not able to rake, but want to help? We will be collecting non-perishable food for local pantries, toiletries to be distributed via the Workplace Volunteer Council's Back to Basics projects, and new or gently used winter outwear for children though adult sizes to be distributed by the Kiwanis. Bring your donations to First United Methodist Church between 8:30 a.m. and 11: 30 a.m.

More details are available on our website.

RSVP Volunteer Fest is October 17

VolunteerFest_Facebook-01.jpgUnited Way RSVP invites you to attend the 7th annual VolunteerFEST, a festival for those 55 and older to celebrate the contribution of volunteer service provided by older adults in our community. The event is sponsored by Ascension and will be held on Wednesday, October 17 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at Cedar Creek.

Enjoy live music by Manson, local wine tasting by Lil Ole Winemaker Shoppe, craft beers tasting by Fabiano Beverage, appetizers, refreshments and a chance to win some really great door prizes. Meet, socialize and have a good time with other community-minded people like yourself. This is a great opportunity to invite friends or neighbors to find out about RSVP, local nonprofits and the many volunteer opportunities. You’ll also have the chance to visit with representatives of 25 RSVP Volunteer Stations who will have information tables and be available to talk with you. This is a great event for everyone 55+, but especially helpful to anyone who wants to find out more about volunteering in a fun, easy way.
