Your Gift Makes a Difference

MariaMeet Maria. Just a few years ago Maria was addicted to opioids. Her addiction was causing anxiety and depression and at times she used so much that she risked overdose. Since she frequently missed work, she had trouble paying her bills on time and was evicted from her apartment. When things looked the most bleak, Maria discovered a United Way funded treatment program and found help to battle her addiction. Over time she was able to get caught up on her bills, find a safe place to live and begin to put her life back together again. Your gift to United Way made it possible. Thank you!

Wrap it Up for Bundles of Joy

church mutual 2.jpgFor the 10th year, volunteers will be wrapping gifts at the Wausau Center Mall from December 1 through Christmas Eve. All proceeds will be used to purchase emergency diapers and formula for families in crisis in our community through the Bundles of Joy program. While you are out shopping, be sure to drop by the gift wrap booth to get your purchases wrapped.

In addition to the gift wrap center, Bundles of Joy was also the recipient of our 4th annual #GivingTuesday promotion last week. Final numbers are still being tabulated, but early results show that over $1,600 was raised and those funds will be matched by UMR and several anonymous donors, bringing the total to approximately $5,100.

Thank you to everyone who participated in #GivingTuesday.

2-1-1 Joins Statewide Addiction Recovery Program

UW211_MarathonCty.jpgUnited Way 2-1-1's across Wisconsin are bringing their statewide network of staff and resources to support Wisconsin’s new Addiction Recovery Helpline. The free, 24/7 service is confidential and connects people struggling with substance use to local treatment services and recovery resources. Supported by the Department of Health Services (DHS), the Helpline is accessed by dialing 2-1-1 or 833-944-4673 at any time.

A brand-new website - addictionhelpwi.org - has also been launched for the service. The site now allows people to reach the helpline in four different ways (i.e., call, text, chat and online) and is another streamlined access point to the treatment services and recovery resources available. Fully focused on recovery, the new site allows visitors to access resources for signing up for insurance, browse treatment options and learn more about recovery. A guided search function is also available to walk visitors through the site’s resources.

If you, or someone you know, is struggling with an addiction, call United Way's 2-1-1 to find local resources to help.
