2020 marks the 90th Birthday of United Way of Marathon County. We are proud to be an organization that has been serving Marathon County during good times and bad. 90 years ago the needs were great as we were enduring the Great Depression. Today the needs are also great with the medical crisis of COVID-19, racial unrest and the lingering effects of poverty and financial hardships for many in our community. We know that the impacts have been tremendous and will have long-lasting ramifications for our future. Together we can all join the fight to meet these challenges. One way is to consider a gift to United Way. We support health, education and financial stability initiatives as well as the 39 partner programs which we fund to address needed issues. YOU can make a lasting difference for people in our community with a gift today. 
Small groups of people are needed to rake yards of elderly and disabled residents in our community. Fall yard cleanup is a great way to volunteer while adhering to safe, social distancing. Raking will take place the week of October 19-24, 2020 when it is convenient for the volunteers and the homeowner. Groups of ten or less, are encouraged to register by October 9, 2020, to be eligible for a door prize of United Way t-shirts for your team! 
Online voting has begun for the 2020 United We Can food sculptures! Please share with your family, employees and community connections. United Way of Marathon County created a fun project for businesses and families to participate in safe and small groups. Voting is open for these 17 creative sculptures. 
Join us for a FREE virtual educational event, Medication Safety for Grandparents, on Wednesday, October 14, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, hosted by Retired United and United Way RSVP of Marathon County. This event is free but registration is required to receive the virtual Microsoft Teams link to attend. Aspirus Wausau Hospital Adult Level II Trauma Center will share safe medication storage tips as well as how to safely dispose of unwanted medication and prescription drugs. Expired, unused and unwanted medications are a crucial public safety and health issue, leading to potential accidental poisoning, misuse and overdose. 
It's that time of year for a Women United Evening Out and we are excited to announce that this year Women United is hosting an Evening In on Monday, October 19, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm! During this virtual event you will learn more about what it means to be a member, engage in an entertaining icebreaker, hear about a Women United funded program (Justice for Families through Wisconsin Judicare) and enjoy a hands on pumpkin crafting activity! And enjoy an easy, guided hands on pumpkin crafting activity. No crafting experience needed! 
Join us November 16 - December 3, 2020 for a virtual Turkey Trot! This year, we are encouraging all race participants to run as a family or friend group and participate in their neighborhoods. Your registration fee will be donated to the Marathon County Hunger Coalition, an initiative of United Way. Money raised from this event will help feed those in need during the holiday season and throughout the year. Participation is unlimited although there will be a limited amount of T-shirts printed.
