  • Collaborate and lead coalitions for housing, hunger, early years and youth.

Grants Awarded!

A dedicated team of Emerging Leaders Board members carefully reviewed 55 school grant applications for 2020 and have selected ten award recipients for this one-time grant. These schools, teachers and classrooms have shown dedication to our local youth!
Congratulations to:

1.    DCE School District Physical Education/Health Curriculum - Physical Education buckets for adaptive kids ages K-12
2.    Edgar Elementary School - Girls on the Run Program
3.    John Marshall Elementary School - Alterative learning sensory activities and functional seating
4.    Mosinee High School - Family & Consumer Education- Feminine hygiene products for up to 75 students
5.    Mosinee Middle School - Digital Graphic Drawing Tablet for virtual learning to enhance virtual math class
6.    Our Saviors Lutheran School - Updating 15 year old technology to teach 5-8th grade students
7.    Rothschild Elementary - Increase learning for students through a virtual Social Emotional Library
8.    Rothschild Elementary - Enhance current sensory room
9.    Stratford Elementary - Books for a second grade shared library
10.  Stratford High School & Middle School - Subscription to El Mundo for Spanish language learners

Employee Spotlight

ben.jpgMeet Ben Lee, our Director of Community Impact- Financial Stability & Health who has been with United Way since 2019.  He believes we all deserve an honest and equitable shot at living our best life. Outside of work he is a partner to Tiffany & dad to three boys, ages 5, 6, and 13. They like to read & write poetry, write & play songs and spend time with their closest friends.  Ben is always chasing down the perfect cup of coffee. 
 
Ben says, “I’m most passionate about community advocacy, art, literature, music, poetry, relationships, and creating equitable life experiences for all of our neighbors. These are the things I measure a successful life by. I think all of these play an equal role in my happiness, depending on the season of life that I’m in. I think my most proud accomplishment would be the life we’ve created and work we’ve done in the community. I value the relationships we’ve built, the friendships we’ve made, and the way we’ve raised our children.”  Prior to working with United Way, Ben held a 12- year career in Human Resources & Corporate Training, most recently with Footlocker, Inc. He grew up in Merrill and naturally gravitated towards Wausau because of the vibrant art & music scene that exists here.
