Welcome Elizabeth Robinson

United Way of Marathon County would like to welcome Elizabeth Robinson, our new Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to the team! She is a native of Wausau with strong family ties to the area. Elizabeth brings over ten years of experience in arts education and small businesses including non-profits. Prior to joining the United Way team, she was working with Aspirus.

Volunteerism has been a part of her life from a young age, including Make a Difference Day, crosscountry service trips in college, and organizing projects to support youth literacy in NYC. Elizabeth has volunteered with The Neighbors' Place, Faith in Action, and the Marathon County Hunger Coalition. Outside of work, she leads community yoga classes and has taught dance classes at Central Wisconsin School of Ballet. This summer she is looking forward to teaching yoga at Monk Gardens, hiking and camping around Wisconsin with family and friends, and spending weekend mornings at the Farmers Market. Elizabeth is replacing Krista Mischo, who will be retiring at the end of June.

Books Books Books

Donate new or gently used children’s books to United Way of Marathon County's Book Drive! Books can also be donated directly to United Way of Marathon County during June 8 - 9, 2021. The most needed books are board books for early readers age 0-3.

Education is the foundation for individual and community success. Research shows learning and brain development occur at the greatest rate between birth and three years of age. Ready to Read is a United Way project to encourage and increase reading to and with babies and young children. This program provides new and gently used books to children, agencies and throughout the community.  *If your program or agency is interested in receiving books, please contact Krista Mischo, at kmischo@unitedwaymc.org with the number of boxes of books you would like and best delivery day/time during the week of June 21-25. Volunteers would deliver boxes of books during Week of Action.*

Rebecca's Closet

Rebecca’s Closet helps hard-working families in our community, like a single mother with three children who received clothes and a connection through Faith in Action of Marathon County. In 2020, 326 requests were filled from Rebecca’s Closet with an average of 22 items per order. 21 agencies and service providers utilized the closet and more than 6,754 items went back into the community to help children in need. The mother was overjoyed and appreciated the help. She commented on how the like-new the condition of the clothing was. Rebecca’s Closet will continue to fulfill online requests for agency representatives. In-kind donations will not be accepted throughout the summer. To keep up to date with the Community Closets, please click here and review the red box at the top of the webpage. If your agency could use summer clothing for children, especially infant sizes, please contact Sarah Laes.

Welcome Emma Jaeger

Welcome Emma Jaeger, our 2021 Summer Intern! Emma just finished her sophomore year of college at UWSP at Wausau and will be attending UW-Eau Claire to finish her biochemistry degree on a Pre-Med track. She grew up in Merrill, where her first job was an elementary school tutor.  Emma loves volunteering and has been a part of the National Honor Society, 4-H, her local library, and church youth group. Outside of work she loves to spend time with her family, time outdoors and enjoys camping trips in the summer. Emma says, “I am a firm believer that growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional, and that if you can dream it, you can do it.”
