Annual Report

At the heart of United Way of Marathon County is our belief in helping people. Last year our efforts were more critical than ever as we had new challenges to recover and rebuild from the health and economic crisis.  With YOUR help we have supported those devastated by the pandemic, feeding thousands, helping hundreds with rent, and answering the call to 211. YOU, our dedicated donors have made this possible. We distributed funds, food boxes, masks, hosted virtual education sessions and fulfilled clothing requests for children in need.  Our 2020 annual report is out!  https://www.unitedwaymc.org/about/annual-report.

FABFAN

Help children in need in Marathon County through Fill A Backpack Fill A Need (FABFAN). This annual project of the Workplace Volunteer Council (WVC) began in 1999 and
provides free backpacks filled with school supplies to eligible children in Marathon County. Over 7,500 students are eligible this year. Help us help them. Let’s start their school year off on the right foot with needed supplies.

Community Book Drive Results

This year the Community Book Drive collected more than 3,313 new and gently used books for children.  There were 7 teams and 35 volunteers that delivered books to 14 agencies and to free little libraries around the area. Summer learning loss – which is what happens when school’s out and young minds sit idle -accounts for two-thirds of the achievement gap in reading between low-income children and their middle-income peers by ninth grade. The good news is that we can close the gap and help students stay on track even when they are out of school. It’s as simple as making sure kids have access to books and enriching activities, a caring adult to help them improve their reading and math skills, and good nutrition to help focus the mind. By donating books YOU are a part of the solution.
