Your Gift Makes a Difference

AmyAmy, a mother of two, was fleeing a domestic violence situation. Her husband threatened to take the children away because he said she was homeless and did not have any way to obtain food for the children. Amy was able to secure an apartment with assistance from a community housing program, but it used the last of her money.  Amy’s income from working full-time cleaning homes made her only eligible to receive $50.00 per month in Food Share.  While that did help, it was not enough to feed her family the entire month.  With additional food assistance from a Hunger Coalition partner food pantry, Amy was able to feed her children healthy foods while also providing a safe home.

Donate Children's Books

Mother Reading to ChildUnited Way Volunteer Connection and Ready to Read are partnering to place bookshelves in various locations across the community to increase the availability of reading materials at home. Children would be encouraged to select a free book to take home and keep and read with their parents or siblings.  Bookshelves have been constructed and will be painted by volunteers on June 21, the national Day of Action.

We are also accepting new or gently used children's books to keep the shelves well stocked. You can help by donating books that you are no longer using, or by purchasing new books. Donations can be dropped off at our office during regular business hours.  Or, if it's more convenient for you to
make a cash donation to this project, you can do that on-line and we will do the shopping for you.

Serve With Liberty Volunteers Donate Time

IMG_3290.JPGOver 40 individuals from Liberty Mutual donated a total of 162 hours to United Way of Marathon County recently. One group created thank you cards that were distributed to veterans on a recent Honor Flight. Others assembled information and materials promoting the use of 2-1-1 to find resources in our community and then another group of volunteers distributed the packets door to door.

Thank you for spending your volunteer time with United Way!
