Volunteer Registration

Thank you for joining United Way to help rake leaves for community members who are physically unable to do so. Here's what you need to know before signing up:

  • Raking Dates: Wednesday, Oct. 22 – Saturday, Oct. 25

  • Backup Dates (weather): Monday, Oct. 27 – Tuesday, Oct. 28

  • Assignments will be emailed by Friday, Oct. 10

What to Bring: Rakes, gloves, and any other tools your group prefers (tarps, leaf blowers, etc.). Homeowners provide leaf bags, but bringing extras is encouraged.

Leaf Disposal: Instructions for each yard will be included with your assignment. In some communities, leaves must be bagged or hauled.

Optional: You’ll have the chance to pick up and deliver a small resource bag to your assigned homeowner(s). Details provided with your assignment.

Tell us about your team. We will do our best to match you with yards based on your preferences and group size, however in some cases we may need to make adjustments.

 Preferred amount of time your team will spend raking. Please plan to allow enough time to realistically complete a full yard:
 
 
 
 

Raking will take place Wednesday, October 22 - Saturday, October 25. Weather backup and leaf pickup dates are scheduled on Monday, October 27 and Tuesday, October 28. You let us know which dates you are available to rake, and we will assign you yards based on your group size and availability.

Are you available to assist with leaf pickup from other yards that have already been raked? This is especially helpful in municipalities where leaves must be transported to a yard waste site. If so, indicate which dates you are available:

Would your team like to pick up and deliver a small resource bag to each homeowner as part of your raking assignment? These bags contain information and small household items to brighten the homeowner's day. Pickup instructions will be provided with your assignment.

 
 
 By registering on this site, you agree to the following terms for your team: You understand that you are participating in Make A Difference Day as a volunteer for community members who are elderly or disabled in the Greater Wausau Area through United Way of Marathon County. You understand that, as a volunteer, you may be involved in physical activities that have a potential risk of injury. You assume that risk. You agree that you will only perform volunteer activities that you are comfortable doing. You also agree that you will not hold United Way or the residents you are raking for responsible or liable for any damage or injury to yourself or your property as a result of your participation in Make A Difference Day. You agree to be responsible for your behavior and to indemnify and hold harmless United Way or the residents you are raking for from any damages or liabilities arising out of your activities as a volunteer in connection with Make A Difference Day. You also grant full permission for United Way to use photographs or video footage of yourself in legitimate accounts and promotions of this event or in promotion of the Volunteer Connection program and its website. You agree to only participate in this event if you are feeling well and are free from any sickness, fever, or other respiratory symptoms.
