Help Us Refresh the Community Closet for Spring

Join United Way of Marathon County as we prepare the Community Closet for the new season. By volunteering or making a donation, you help ensure families, especially single moms who are part of the ALICE population and working hard to make ends meet, have access to free, dignified clothing for themselves and their children.

Date: 04/06/2026

Time: 09:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Location: United Way of Marathon County Community Closet - 705 S. 24th Ave, Suite 440, Wausau, WI 54403

What You'll Do:

  • Pack away winter clothing to make room for spring and summer items.
  • Restock racks with season-appropriate apparel for all ages.
  • Assist with light organizing and cleaning to create a welcoming, easy-to-shop space for families.

Why It Matters:

For many single moms in the ALICE population (those earning above the poverty line but still unable to cover the rising cost of basic needs) every dollar counts. Single moms in Marathon County continue to have a high ALICE rate in our overall population at 60%. Free clothing helps reduce financial pressure, so they can focus limited resources on housing, food, childcare, and other essentials. Your support ensures the Community Closet remains a dependable resource to lift 10,000 community members to financial stability by 2033.

Ways to Support:

Volunteer: Individuals, families, and groups are welcome. Volunteers must be 18 or older; volunteers ages 12–17 may participate alongside a parent or guardian.

Make a Donation:
If you cannot volunteer, please consider making a financial gift to strengthen programs like the Community Closet. Your donation directly supports families working hard to achieve stability.
