Your Gift Makes a Difference

A few years ago, Mark was homeless and out of work. Learn how your gift to United Way helped Mark get back on track.result-211mark.jpg

Is your workplace looking for a team building activity that helps the community?  Do you and your teens want to spend some time volunteering this summer? United Way of Marathon County is hosting the first “Week of Action” June 18-22. We are offering quick, easy volunteer projects that will really make a difference for people right here in our community.  There are different projects offered throughout the week.  Find the one that best fits your schedule, or select one that can be done at your convenience during that week. Get the details here and register today.

It's Not Too Late

It's not too late for you to help us reach our goal of collecting 5000 new or gently used children's books for the Ready to Read Community Bookshelves. From now until June 14, we would like your help to collect 5000 books -- enough to stock the shelves for the next year. Please consider hosting a book drive in your company to help us reach our goal. It’s an easy and fun way to help fill the shelves.  Use the Book Drive posters to promote your internal book drive (Word and PDF).  Books can be dropped off at United Way by June 14 or call our office by June 8 to schedule pick up the following week (715) 848-2927.  Individuals can also drop off books at the United Way office between now and June 14.

Thank You for Adopting A Classroom

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Adopt a Classroom project! Together, we brought a hands-on literacy and healthy eating activity to 1,260 kindergarten students in Marathon County. Every student left school with a book of their own, and by now have transplanted their seedlings and are watching their vegetables grow. Their smiling faces say it all!

Raisin' Great Kids Healthy Snack Drive to Fight Childhood Hunger

Raisin Great Kids Healthy Snack Drive - volunteers_cropped.jpg

On Thursday, May 10, the Marathon County Hunger Coalition, an initiative of United Way, partnered with The Grand Theater to host a ‘Raisin’ Great Kids Healthy Snack Drive prior to The Manitowoc Minute’s Charlie Berens’ sold out Keep ‘Er Movin’ show. “You can’t keep ‘er movin’ if you don’t got da energy. And ya can’t get da energy without healthy food,” said the always-in-character Charlie Berens before the event.

The Grand’s patrons responded generously by donating raisins, Craisins, fruit cups, applesauce, GoGo Squeeze, granola bars, oatmeal and many other nutritious, non-perishable snacks. As a result, the Hunger Coalition delivered over 400 pounds of healthy, kid-friendly snacks to local school-based food pantries and backpack programs on May 11.

Thank you to The Grand Theater, Charlie Berens, and everyone who donated and volunteered to help improve food security for youth in Marathon County.
