Adopt a Classroom

United Way is launching our 2022 Adopt a Classroom project. For a small investment, your workplace or individual group can adopt a kindergarten classroom, provide each child a book and classroom demonstration experience. 2022 Adopt A Classroom Online Registration to reserve your classrooms today. Register by March 18 to guarantee your classrooms.  In 2021 Adopt a Classroom brought books to 1,140 kindergarteners in Marathon County.

Read Across America Day

March 2 was Read Across America Day. We had 5 volunteers who shared their love of books and reading. Thank you to the Wausau Police Department,  Cindy Owens, Renee Reed, Dolores Zwahlen, and Cheryl Wolken. Listen for your favorite book on our You Tube page or watch on Facebook. Having books of their own is a great way to encourage children to read and practice their literacy skills.

Rebecca's Closet

Rebecca’s Closet, a project of Women United, provides new and gently used clothing for children. Recently a donation was accepted from Bethany Church in Schofield, in honor of Random Acts of Kindness Day. Pictured above: Joe and Patrick, volunteers, drove an Afghan refugee family to the Closet for clothing. This family's immediate needs were helped with clothing for the entire family. Human Service professionals are able to utilize the closet for clothing based on their knowledge of the family situation. There is no income restriction or other qualification procedure. Donations of clean, new, and nearly new clothing can be made during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm. If you are interested in volunteering in Rebecca’s Closet, please contact United Way at 715-848-2927.
